    To be completely honest, I don't know what I'm doing at least three quarters of the time. But I try to help.

Independent Roleplaying, the chances are you've probably heard of it, so I'm going to try and skip that long introduction, and say that this is basically a guide to it, please keep in mind that I'm not an expert.

First of all, I know there are other guides to this, for example there’s a brilliant one here. Now, moving on.

Independent ‘Indie’ Roleplaying is essentially where you, the mun have no commitments to any roleplaying group, nor any rules to follow other than those of your partner.

Canon Characters and Original Characters. In the Indie roleplay world you will probably find that the two bigger fandoms are Teen Wolf and The Vampire Diaries. They typically have the most canon and original characters. But there are still plenty of other fandoms, as well as those which aren’t attached to any fandom at all.

URLs and Themes. No one really tends to take much notice of either, if I’m being honest. The only things which matter on the subject of URLs is that they aren’t too long, As for themes, you want to go with a simple one which is easy on the eye and has simple navigation.

Muses, or Characters. They pretty much mean exactly the same thing. A mun can have multiple muses on one blog.

Biographies. They don’t really matter all that much, as long as you understand your character. On mutli-character blogs you might find that they have short descriptions on a ‘muse’ page. Some people have little fact file sort of things for their character, and some add a biography later on. It really doesn’t matter that much.

Verses. They can be quite hard to get your head around at first, especially if you’re a new roleplayer. Most Indie blogs are multiverse, meaning that no threads or relationships cross over, though some are single verse meaning that they have one setting and one relationship. Those who roleplay Canon characters often have different verses for other fandoms, making crossovers much easier.

AUs - Alternate Universes. Most roleplayers do these, whether it’s the common High School AU, or something like a Bling Ring AU, everything goes, really. It’s one of the funner things to do.

Faceclaims. They are very important, and like most roleplay groups, the male muses with popular faceclaims get more hype, and more replies. All of the Teen Wolf, One Direction guys and Justin Bieber are usually the most common, Harry Styles, Dylan O’Brien and Zayn Malik being favourites among many. Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande are typically the female faceclaims you come across the most.

Magic Anons. - Please refer to the guide linked above.

Partners and Plots. It’s easy to come across both, most of the time people make welcome starters just to introduce your characters, though some ask for you to plot first. If you want a certain plot, or faceclaim to interact with the easiest thing to do is make a post and tag it with the appropriate things, explaining the idea, or you can approach other muns and ask if they would like to plot. If you’re looking for a certain ship, just make another post and the chances are that you will get a reply.

Interacting. It’s really easy, all you need to do is browse through the tags which I will list below and reply to whatever starter you want, that’s the easiest way, or you can post your own open starter and people might reply.

Useful Tags;

  • open rp
  • indie rp
  • open
  • open starter
  • independent rp

Extra stuff;

  • People tend to use blockquotes and smaller text because it looks neater, but that just depends on the roleplayer.
  • Muses with the same faceclaims can interact.
  • Magic Anons are sometimes called M!As.
  • Track your URLs tag so that you never miss a starter.
  • You might want to set up a queue with pictures of your faceclaim so you don’t spam the dashboard.

And one last thing;

Musings. They’re hard to explain but you will find that a lot of roleplayers post these, sometimes they can be pictures, sometimes they can be text posts like;
